The inner city, called "Ichan-Kala", is rightfully considered the pearl of the Khorezm oasis and declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site as a major center of world civilization and one of the important centers on the Great Silk Road.

The Calta Minor Minaret
Translated as "Short minaret", it was ordered to be built by the Khiva ruler Muhammad Amin Khan. Construction began in 1852 and according to the project the minaret was supposed to be about 80 meters high, but at around 29 meters construction stopped in 1855 due to the death of Muhammad Amin Khan.
The minaret became famous due to its incompleteness. The cessation of construction gave rise to many legends related to this monument. It is the only minaret completely covered with glazed tiles and majolica.
